Jake was raised in the labour movement and worked as a union member on the factory floor before pursuing a career in law. After completing his law degree in 2018, he articled for the same private-sector union that he grew up in.  Prior to joining Gerrand Rath Johnson in 2022, Jake spent several years as in-house counsel for the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

Jake’s expertise is in representing unions and their members in all areas related to labour and employment law. He works on grievance arbitrations and interest arbitrations in both the public and private sector, and represents union clients on a wide variety of matters at labour boards and other administrative tribunals. He also has appeals experience and has successfully represented his union clients on judicial review.

Jake received his Juris Doctor from Dalhousie’s Schulich School of Law in 2018. During law school, he focused on labour and administrative law, and was the recipient of Schulich’s “Class of 1958” award for excellence in contract law. Outside of the classroom, he was awarded an internship at the Nova Scotia Labour Board, where he received an honours distinction for his work on an extensive annotation of the Trade Union Act. Jake is an avid reader and enjoys playing sports and chess recreationally. He currently resides in Regina, but has also lived in Nova Scotia and Ontario.
