Jana was born in Regina. She studied English Literature at the University of Regina, receiving a Bachelor of Arts (with Great Distinction) in 2000. She then moved to Toronto to study law, receiving her Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) from the University of Toronto in 2003.
Following law school, Jana clerked with Justice Edgar Sexton at the Federal Court of Appeal in Ottawa. She then received the Harold G. Fox Scholarship to travel to London, England for a year to train with barristers and complete advocacy training with the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. During her time in London, Jana also marshalled with a Judge at the Old Bailey Criminal Court.
When her Fox Scholarship concluded in 2005, Jana began practising civil litigation in Toronto. She was counsel at trials, on appeals, in applications and at arbitration. In addition to appearing as counsel before all levels of court in Ontario, Jana also appeared as counsel in the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
After taking some time away from legal practice to travel and pursue other passions, Jana’s heart brought her home to Saskatchewan. She is happy to have joined Gerrand Rath Johnson LLP as an associate. Her practice now focuses on advocacy on behalf of union clients in labour law matters.
Jana loves to travel, dance, write, hike and generally be outdoors.
